The traditional Russian banya has been part of Slavic culture for centuries — a place of gathering where people exchange news, share stories, negotiate, and connect. Its health benefits are well documented: improved blood circulation, clearer respiratory function, better skin condition, greater joint flexibility, and genuine muscular rejuvenation. But the banya ritual is about more than physical benefit.
It is a way of leaving behind the accumulation of the past year and entering the new one with a lighter spirit. DUBANYA, the first Russian bathhouse in Dubai and the Gulf, has brought this tradition to the golden shores of Palm Jumeirah. Almost everything visible in the space — stoves, wood chambers, veniks, herbal teas, banya hats — was brought from Russia.
The team of professionals also made the journey from Russia, driven by their passion and love for the banya culture. The cedar and alder steam rooms run at temperatures between 65 and 85 degrees Celsius with humidity maintained between 40 and 60 percent. Wooden logs on the walls, traditional haylofts, stone stoves, icy plunge pools, natural herbs, oak and birch brooms, and organic honey create a sense of familiarity and nostalgia.
Snow is used during the treatment to cool the skin and offer refreshment. The contrast between the steam room and the cold plunge pool produces what the team describes as an unmatched refreshing, purifying sensation that rejuvenates both body and spirit. DUBANYA offers services separately for men and women: a social banya for groups of friends, and a private banya for a more exclusive experience. For the New Year’s period, the bathhouse has prepared special programmes for those who want to close the year with the warmth, stillness, and ritual that only a genuine banya can provide.
