A megalopolis is a system of vertical lines reflected in each other. It is an interchange of heights and planes – the rhymes of window sashes, the rhythmic inhalation and exhalation of a chimney stalk.
The city sleeps, and it dreams of soaring through the sky, shooting upward from its fixed, terrestrial position. If you observe these dreams at length, in total silence and solitude, you will find that the souls of the homes resemble the spaceships of children’s stories, surging majestically, deep into space. Spaceships that the likes of us never managed to construct.
